I COX
Big Day Out 2007 was such a hit with people wanting to paint their own T-shirts, considering I hardly did any planning and rocked up having no idea how the day was going to go, all I had were some T-shirts, inks and some questions... would people want to paint their own T's? Is there a market for Big Day Outters to brand their own clothes? The answer was a resounding big YES.
This time in 2008 I got ready and invested a little more time and energy for the punters to communicate... to say whatever they wanted to a T. Printed flyers, prepared, cleaned, sorted all the inks, for two days pre-inked and painted T-shirts, found someone who wanted to be at the stall all day, made the space look fantastically colorful and inviting the night before, got there on time, ready and waiting for the onslaught. This time round I did everything I could in preparation for a BIG, MAD, DAY OUT.
Nothing prepared me for the result tho'... the result that left me an energetically and financially shocked OH NO.. TWO PEOPLE??? two people from how many thousand ???
In a perverse way the main bands said it all... rage against the machine and that DJ, what was his name????
was the T-shirt that attracted the most attention, the one that people walked by and laughed at... nobody wanted to wear it tho'... don't know why :( ...now I'm left wondering whether Carl Cox actually got it.... got his hand painted gift.... if he did I imagine he'd probably hate it, wrong color and very clearly painted by hand. I looked at the black/white Travisty T he was wearing and thought OH NO I am wwwwaaaayyy off track with my present, however by that stage I was already IN the can of worms... go forward or back, I was a little stuck until I saw a hole big enough to throw myself into. Great way to finish off a very interesting day I thought as I purrrrred my way thru the bare chested OMG muscley guys in the boiler room... absolutely packed with bodies groovin' to the deep bass beat pumping out of the massive stereos on the massive stage with H U G E flashing screens flashing out the words Carl Cox, Carl Cox, Carl Cox ... let me know that I was in the right place... just 30 metres between me and the giant COX on the stage was a couple of thousand human wriggling worms... NULL PROBLEMO, I love a challenge. Got into the groove myself.... noticed a gap and jumped, stop, groove, wait for the gap and jump. Wait, what's that smell, is that what I think it is????... No Dale, NO, follow the Cox..... back on track.... into the groove and another step forward, a l m o s t t h e r e..... last jump and climax... I MADE IT! The face of the new breed of security didn't look like it knew what to do with what I had in my hand "I LOVE COX.... I LOVE COX it's a T-shirt for Carl" I yelled as loud as I could. He smiled and said he couldn't guarantee Mr Cox would actually get it, by that stage it didn't really matter.. I had to get back to the stall to finish packing up, and the thousand plus worms looked a little scary when I turned around ... the way out was so much easier. So, now I'm left wondering... did the big black Carl in his TravisT get his gift??? Who knows where it ended up... and really, it doesn't matter.... us Aussies, we showed him
that WE LOVE COX!!!
