Curriculum For Living
Self Expression and Leadership
Self Expression - the freedom to be, giving oneself fully to all of life.
The information here is based on working at a small centre in Perth between 1997-1999, the information may still be applicable for smaller centres around the world, and it may not, however this is how SELP/the Curriculum For Living was back then.
People are always given the choice of at least two seminars/courses/programs to register into, with the leader of each course having a minimum acceptable percentage of participants to move from one course into another. A percentage of people complete the same curriculum together, others register from earlier or later programs depending on their personal circumstances.
Each SELP program starts on a Saturday with exercises to meet their SELP community as both their stories and the possibility each person invents themselves to be during the Advanced Course. The whole idea of SELP is for each person to 'enrol' their outside communities into that possibility vs the story each graduate is known as and will be known as for the rest of their life unless the story is interupted. The SELP community is a training ground to give up 'acts' and conversations of self destruction.
It begins with a project, ANY project that inspires SELP-ians (just made that up, there is no such thing as an SELPian) into action. The whole first day is focussed on generating ideas and formulating concepts for projects that will call forward some possibility on the planet. Street parties, exhibitions, events to raise money for a community either existing or about to exist, bring family together, paint/sculpt/express life through art... whatever inspires the individual that will stretch the imagination and cause communities to relate to people as a possibility.
On the first day of SELP which is a Saturday, the community is divided into smaller groups of 3,4, 5 or 6 people, who are then allocated a coach. Anybody who has completed SELP can be a coach. All that is required is a willingness to commit time and energy into coaching new SELPians thru the program.
Structures are set up to manage projects and keep groups connected thru phone calls, meetings and emails. First day is also the time to check diarys for any possible conflicting dates that can be shifted to fit SELP in. Anybody who misses a Saturday must participate in the same 2nd or 3rd Saturday somewhere else in the world within 2 weeks before or after their scheduled Saturday. That's the only way a participant can be considered a graduate. Any missed classes (of which there can be three) are re-created to include the participant in the conversation.
A solid structure is founded to facilitate each participant 'getting' Self Expression and Leadership.... regardless of whether or not the project gets completed. It's all about the journey and participants are coached to have their project reach fruition.
Participants can invite guests to any Saturday event, the more the merrier.. in fact there is a special introduction for the first three hours of each Saturday where guests can register into a Landmark Forum, and they too can then 'do' the SELP and create their own projects! It's also been recommended to schedule those resigned and cynical guests for a Saturday event, 'cos their socks will be knocked off once they see how transformed participants become.
